Game description:

Soleil (also known as Crusader of Centy in North America) is an action-adventure RPG released for the Sega Genesis in 1994 by Nextech. Often compared to The Legend of Zelda, the game distinguishes itself with a unique premise: early in your journey, you lose the ability to speak to humans but gain the ability to communicate with animals and monsters. This twist allows you to recruit animal companions who grant you special abilities, while also presenting the world’s monsters in a sympathetic light rather than as mindless enemies.

How to Play

Your objective is to explore the world, solve puzzles, and uncover why monsters have become aggressive, all while trying to regain your ability to speak to humans. You fight in real-time using your sword and by throwing it like a boomerang. You can equip two animal companions at once to combine their powers. For browser play, the standard Sega Genesis controls apply: use the arrow keys to move, Z to attack, and X to jump. Press Enter (Start) to access your sub-screen and manage your animal companions.

Tips

  • Experiment with animal combinations. For example, equipping the Lion and the Penguin gives you a sword attack that combines fire and ice effects, while pairing the Cheetah with the Dodo accelerates your movement and attack speed.
  • Once you lose your ability to speak to humans, make sure to talk to every animal and monster you encounter. They often provide critical hints, puzzle solutions, or items needed to progress.
  • Master the sword throw early on. You can charge your attack to throw your sword, which is essential for hitting distant switches and dealing with enemies safely from afar.
