Game description:

James Pond 3: Operation Starfish is a 1993 action-platformer for the Sega Genesis that takes the amphibious agent to the Moon, which is predictably made of cheese. Dr. Maybe has set up mining operations across the lunar surface, and it’s up to Pond to navigate a massive, interconnected overworld map to stop him. Unlike the stretchy mechanics of Robocod, this entry focuses heavily on speed, momentum, and using object-based gadgets like dynamite, umbrellas, and magno-boots to explore more than 100 non-linear levels.

How to Play

Your primary goal in each stage is to locate and destroy one of Dr. Maybe’s communication beacons to open up new paths on the map. In some levels, you will need to find and collect four teacups before the beacon can be destroyed. By default, use the D-pad to move, A or C to jump, and B to run or use equipped gadgets.

Tips

  • The Magno-boots are incredibly versatile, allowing Pond to run straight up walls and walk across ceilings to reach hidden areas and alternate exits.
  • Mastering slope jumping is essential; leaping off angled surfaces helps you maintain momentum and gain massive speed boosts to clear large gaps.
