Crack Down is a top-down run-and-gun action game released by Sega for the Genesis in 1990. Players take on the role of covert agents Ben and Andy, tasked with infiltrating enemy strongholds, navigating maze-like corridors, and eliminating robotic forces along the way. The game features a distinct split-screen presentation that remains active even in single-player, displaying an essential overhead map on one half of the screen and the action on the other.
The primary objective in each stage is to locate designated red “X” markers, plant time bombs on them, and reach the exit before the countdown expires. Use the arrow keys to navigate the environment. The primary action keys (typically mapped to Z, X, and C) allow you to fire your weapon, punch or press flat against walls to dodge incoming fire, and unleash a limited supply of smart bombs. Press Enter to start the mission.
Survival requires a tactical approach rather than just running in guns blazing. Use the wall-hugging mechanic frequently to slip past enemy turrets and avoid crossfire in narrow hallways. Additionally, study the mini-map carefully to plan an efficient route between bomb placements, as the strict time limit leaves very little room for backtracking.
