Originally released by Namco for arcades in 1989, The Legend of Valkyrie (known in Japan as Valkyrie No Densetsu) is an overhead action-adventure game. Serving as a sequel to the earlier Famicom title Valkyrie no Bōken, it shifts away from traditional RPG mechanics into a vibrant, faster-paced action-platformer. Players control the warrior maiden Valkyrie—and her companion Kurino Xandra in co-op mode—journeying across the kingdom of Marvel Land to recover the Golden Seed and restore a dying spring that threatens the realm with famine.

How to Play

Your objective is to traverse linear stages, defeating enemies and collecting coins that can be spent at various shops for weapon upgrades, magic spells, and power-ups. The game uses standard arcade controls: press the Coin and Start buttons (often mapped to Shift and Enter in the browser) to begin. Use the joystick (arrow keys) to move your character, one action button (like Z) to swing your weapon or shoot, and another (like X) to jump. Precise jumping and quick reflexes are required to navigate the platforming sections and avoid incoming enemy fire.

• Take time to defeat enemies and collect as many coins as possible; purchasing stronger magic and projectile upgrades early will make boss fights much easier.
