Game description:

Space Fever is a fixed shooter released for the Arcade by Nintendo in 1979. It was developed by Nintendo R&D2 under Masayuki Uemura, with hardware and programming work from Ikegami Tsushinki, and stands as one of Nintendo’s earliest video games and its answer to the Space Invaders craze that had swept arcades the year before. This “New Version” is a later revision of the original single-color cabinet release, made ahead of Nintendo’s own follow-up, Space Fever Color.

How to Play

Your job is to defend the bottom of the screen with a laser cannon, picking off descending rows of aliens before they reach you. As you thin out each wave, the survivors move and fire faster, so the last few enemies of a round are the most dangerous. A bonus UFO periodically crosses the top of the screen for extra points if you can hit it. Move the cannon with the Arrow keys and fire with Z. Press Enter to start and Shift to insert a coin.

Tips

  • Stay sharp as waves thin out: the last surviving aliens in each row speed up and fire more often, so steady aim matters more than rapid fire once the count gets low.
  • Watch the top of the screen: the bonus UFO passes by periodically between waves and is worth extra points if you’re ready to fire when it appears.
