Game description:

River Patrol is a 1981 arcade action game developed in Japan by Orca and licensed to Kersten for release in North America. You steer a patrol boat down a vertically scrolling, crocodile-infested river, racing to reach a dam at the end of each stage before the clock runs out. Along the way you pull drowning people from the water for points while dodging logs, boulders, TNT, and whirlpools that can end your run in an instant.

How to Play

Move the boat left and right with the arrow keys to line up rescues and dodge hazards. Hold Z to open the throttle and push upstream toward the dam — let go and the current carries you back downstream, so keeping the throttle down is how you make progress against the clock. Hitting a log, boulder, TNT, or another boat sinks you instantly, while touching a crocodile or crossing a whirlpool sinks you more gradually. Press Shift to insert a coin and Enter to start.

Tips

  • Keep the throttle held down as much as you safely can — every moment you let off, the current drags you back downstream and costs you time against the dam’s clock.
  • Hard obstacles like logs, boulders, TNT, and other boats sink you the instant you touch them, so give them more room than crocodiles or whirlpools, which only sink you gradually.
