Kamakazi III is an unofficial arcade hack built on top of Super Galaxians, itself a modification of Namco’s genre-defining Galaxian — preserved today through MAME under the driver name “Kamakazi III (superg hack).” Like its Galaxian-family ancestors, it’s a classic fixed shooter: you control a single ship at the bottom of the screen, taking on a grid of alien invaders that break formation to dive-bomb you.
How to Play
Move your ship left and right along the bottom of the screen and fire straight up to clear the alien formation above you. Enemies periodically peel off from the grid to swoop down at your position, and picking one off mid-dive scores more points than shooting it while it sits in formation. In the browser, move with the Left/Right arrow keys and fire with Z; use Shift to insert a coin and Enter to start.
Tips
- Prioritize divers: enemies that break formation to attack are worth more points than ones sitting still, so time your shots for when they commit to a dive.
- Keep moving: diving enemies aim for wherever you were standing, so small, constant side-to-side movement is safer than parking in one spot between waves.
