Dragon Saber (this version being the “World Do2” arcade revision) is a classic 1990 vertical-scrolling shoot-’em-up developed by Namco. Released as the direct sequel to the acclaimed Dragon Spirit, the game once again puts you in control of a majestic dragonโHuey or Siriusโbattling through prehistoric, post-apocalyptic, and fantastical landscapes. Players must manage simultaneous anti-air and air-to-ground combat against hordes of bio-mechanical enemies, challenging screen-filling bosses, and environmental hazards.
How to Play
Your goal is to survive each scrolling stage and defeat the boss at the end to progress. Like many Namco shooters of the era, combat is split between aerial enemies and ground targets.
The default arcade controls in the browser are Arrow Keys to move, Shift to insert a coin, and Enter to Start. Use Z to fire your anti-air breath weapons and X to drop bombs on ground targets.
Tips
- Master the Charge Shot: If you stop firing your anti-air weapon for a moment, energy will gather in your dragon’s mouth. Firing then unleashes a devastating “Explode Shot” that clears large swaths of enemies or deals massive damage to bosses.
- Manage Ground Threats: Don’t neglect your ground bombs. Ground-based enemies often fire hard-to-dodge projectiles or restrict your movement. Bombing them quickly gives you more room to maneuver.
- Coordinate in Co-op: If playing with a friend, use the two-player mode to your advantage. Unlike solo play where you are sent back to a checkpoint upon dying, a downed player in co-op respawns instantly on screen as long as the other player is alive.
