Canyon Bomber is a 1977 arcade game from Atari built around a single, deceptively simple idea: you fly a blimp or biplane over a rocky canyon and press one button to drop bombs, with no control over the aircraft itself. The canyon is packed with numbered rocks stacked in layers, and every bomb that finds one scores points — but the field only gets sparser and harder to hit as the round goes on.
How to Play
Your aircraft flies its own fixed path back and forth across the top of the screen — all you do is press Z at the right moment to drop a bomb on the rocks below. It is a two-player game: each player flies their own aircraft and drops bombs with their own button, so you can play solo or race a second player for the higher score. Miss three bombs in a row without hitting a rock and your turn is over, so timing matters more than reflexes. Insert virtual coins with Shift and press Enter to start.
Tips
- You cannot steer the plane, so read its flight path and release early enough for the bomb to fall onto a rock rather than reacting the instant you are overhead.
- Early in a round, rocks are plentiful and drops are forgiving — bank your hits then, since gaps only widen as the layers thin out.
- Because three consecutive misses ends your run, hold off on a marginal drop rather than forcing one just to keep bombing.
