Game description:

B. Rap Boys Special (Japan) is Kaneko’s 1992 arcade revision of its beat ’em up B. Rap Boys, a spiritual sequel to Kaneko’s earlier DJ Boy. It’s a side-scrolling brawler for up to three players in which the crew fights through a crime boss’s henchmen across varied stages — a country road, a café, a rollercoaster park, a European street with charging bulls, a mansion, and a circus — using fists, thrown weapons like bats, pipes, bottles, and burgers, wrestling moves like gorilla presses and powerbombs, and even a mech suit. Each of the three playable characters gets around on their own ride — skateboard, bicycle, or roller skates — which factors into their special attacks. The Special revision keeps the same stages and structure as the original but trims the difficulty: enemies carry less health, fewer appear on screen at once, and the attack button has less input delay, making it noticeably easier to fight through than the original release.

How to Play

Controls are simple: one attack button and one jump button, with combos built from timing and movement rather than special-move inputs — flying kicks, transport-based attacks like a skateboard kickflip or bike dropkick, and spinning kicks that don’t cost health. In the browser, use the arrow keys to move, Z to attack, and X to jump.

Tips

  • Lean on your character’s transport-based attacks (kickflip, dropkick, etc.) — they tend to hit harder and cover more ground than a basic punch.
  • The spinning kick doesn’t cost health here, so use it freely to clear crowds rather than saving it.
  • Since this version’s attack button has less input delay than the original B. Rap Boys, you can chain hits faster — useful against the Lumber Men who throw drums until they close in to tackle you.
