Volfied, a 1989 Sega Genesis action puzzle game by Taito, is a sci-fi successor to the arcade classic Qix. Players pilot a small ship along the perimeter of the screen, venturing inward to slice away territory while avoiding alien enemies. The goal is to claim at least 80% of the playfield to clear the stage, carefully navigating around the giant boss and its minions that patrol the unclaimed space.
How to play
Navigate your ship using the arrow keys. To draw a line and claim territory, hold the cut button (S, X, or Z) while moving into the playfield. You are vulnerable while drawing; if an enemy touches your ship or your active line, you lose a life. Reconnect to the safe border to lock in the claimed area. Press Enter to start.
Tips
- Claim smaller chunks to safely build up your total rather than risking long, dangerous lines across the entire screen.
- Try to trap the main boss in a small section of the playfield to rapidly reach the 80% completion goal with a single cut.
- Capture the red power-up blocks scattered around the screen to gain temporary advantages like increased speed, a laser weapon to shoot small enemies, or time freezes.
