Syndicate is a 1993 isometric action-strategy game developed by Bullfrog Productions, brought to the SNES with its dark cyberpunk atmosphere intact. You play as the executive of a ruthless mega-corporation, directing a squad of four heavily armed cyborg agents through futuristic cities to assassinate rivals, steal technology, and violently enforce corporate takeovers. The game blends real-time tactical shooting with strategic management between missions, where you research new weapons and upgrade your agents’ cybernetic parts.
How to Play
Missions range from straight combat to escorting VIPs or “persuading” targets to join your side. In the browser emulator, use the arrow keys (D-pad) to navigate. The Z and X keys act as your primary action buttons (A and B on the SNES) for selecting agents, firing weapons, and interacting with the environment. You can manage your squad and weapons using A and S (X and Y), alongside the shoulder buttons mapped to Q and E. Press Enter (Start) to pause or access menus, and Shift (Select) to toggle options.
Tips
- The Persuadertron is one of your most powerful tools; use it to brainwash civilians to build a crowd, which lowers the threshold needed to persuade enemy agents and heavily armed guards.
- Keep your agents equipped with long-range weapons like lasers and gauss guns, as engaging enemy syndicates in close-quarters combat is highly risky.
- Invest in researching better legs and chest modifications early on, as the increased movement speed and health will drastically improve your squad’s survival rate.
