Released in 1989 for the NES, Zenbei!! Pro Basket (better known in North America as All-Pro Basketball) is an early sports title developed by Aicom. Unlike many traditional basketball games of its era, this title uses a vertical half-court perspective, focusing the action heavily on the hoop for intense offensive and defensive plays. It features an eight-team league, individual player stamina mechanics, and a robust fouls system.
How to Play
Your objective is to outscore the opposing team across four quarters of vertically-scrolling action. Use the arrow keys (D-pad) to maneuver your players around the court. On offense, the Z key (B button) performs a pass, while the X key (A button) executes a shot; hold the X key to jump and release it at the peak of your jump for better accuracy. On defense, use the Z key to attempt a steal and the X key to jump for a block. Enter (Start) pauses the game.
Tips
- Keep an eye on your players’ stamina bars. Exhausted players are sluggish and prone to missing shots, so utilize substitutions during timeouts.
- Passing is often safer and more effective than trying to dribble past a congested defense. Look for the open man near the basket.
