Released for the Famicom Disk System by Irem in 1987, Youkai Yashiki (also known as Demon Mansion) is an action-platformer where you explore a sprawling, haunted estate. Playing as a young boy named Kouji, your goal is to brave five supernatural stages to rescue your missing sister from Japanese folklore monsters.
How to Play
Your primary weapon against the youkai is a simple flashlight. In each of the game's five stages, you must locate five hidden talismans to unlock the path to the boss. Batteries serve as your health meter; taking damage drains your batteries, which also reduces the range and power of your flashlight beam.
- D-pad (Arrow keys): Move and enter doors
- A Button (X): Jump
- B Button (Z): Use flashlight
- Start / Select (Enter / Shift): Pause or select options
Tips
- Manage your batteries: Since your flashlight's beam shortens as your health drops, prioritize finding battery pickups to keep your attacks effective at a safe distance.
- Search thoroughly: The five talismans required to finish each level are often hidden behind doors or dropped by specific enemies, meaning you need to explore every room.
