Xexyz is an ambitious action-platformer and shoot ’em up hybrid developed by Atlus and published by Hudson Soft for the NES in 1990. Set in the post-apocalyptic year of 2777, the game breaks from tradition by alternating between on-foot platforming areas and vehicle-based horizontal shooting stages, complete with light RPG elements and currency to spend in hidden shops.
The objective is to navigate the varied stages, defeat the mechanical empire, and free the captured princesses. Playable in the browser, use the arrow keys to move, Z and X to jump and attack, and Enter to pause the game.
Take the time to gather currency in the early platforming sections to buy vital weapon upgrades and health items. During the shooter segments, prioritize dodging over relentless attacking, as enemy bullet patterns can become dense very quickly.
