Game description:

X-Kaliber 2097 is a futuristic 1994 action platformer for the SNES. Set in the dystopian cyberpunk city of Neo New York, you play as Slash, a warrior wielding the mystical X-Kaliber sword, on a mission to overthrow the warlord Raptor and his mutant Morph army. The game blends side-scrolling hack-and-slash gameplay with fighting-game-style boss encounters and is notable for its heavy electronic soundtrack provided by the techno group Psykosonik.

How to Play

Your goal is to fight your way through challenging side-scrolling stages, defeating regular enemies and surviving environmental hazards, before facing off against powerful bosses in one-on-one duels at the end of each level. You must master both offensive sword combos and defensive blocking to succeed.

Default SNES browser controls:

  • Movement: D-pad (Arrow keys)
  • Jump / Attack: A, B, X, Y buttons (Z, X, A, S keys)
  • Shoulder Bumpers: L and R (Q, W keys)
  • Start / Select: Enter / Shift

Tips

  • Master the block: While offense is key, using your sword to block incoming enemy projectiles is absolutely essential for surviving the tougher levels.
  • Study the bosses: Because boss fights play out similarly to a traditional 2D fighting game, take your time to learn their attack patterns and look for openings rather than rushing in blindly.
