Game description:

X (Japan) (Proto) is a rare and historically significant technical demonstration developed for the Super Nintendo by Argonaut Software in collaboration with Nintendo. Originally known internally as “SNESGlider,” this prototype was created to prove that the SNES hardware was capable of rendering flat-shaded 3D polygonal graphics. Its success famously convinced Nintendo to fund the development of the Super FX chip, paving the way for Star Fox and the dawn of 3D console gaming. While this prototype was built for the SNES, the full game was eventually released exclusively in Japan for the Game Boy under the title X.

How to Play

As a technical proof-of-concept rather than a complete game, gameplay consists of flying a polygonal craft through a rudimentary 3D environment. Use the D-pad (mapped to arrow keys) to steer, and the face buttons (Z, X, A, S) to accelerate and maneuver.
