WWF WrestleMania, released for the NES in 1989, is the first home console wrestling game to feature the superstars of the World Wrestling Federation. Players can step into the ring as one of six iconic wrestlersโincluding Hulk Hogan, Andre the Giant, and “Macho Man” Randy Savageโcompeting in exhibition matches or a grueling tournament to become the WWF Champion.
How to Play
The objective is to wear down your opponent’s health meter and pin them to the mat for a three-count. Use the Arrow keys to navigate the ring. Press Z and X to throw punches and kicks, or move into your opponent to lock up and execute grappling moves like body slams. Press Enter to Start and Shift to Select.
Tips
- Pay attention to the unique power-up items that occasionally fly into the ring (such as Hulk Hogan’s cross or Ted DiBiase’s dollar sign). Grabbing your wrestler’s specific item will restore a portion of your health.
- You can climb the turnbuckles to perform high-risk flying attacks, but make sure your opponent is down for long enough, as missing the attack will damage you.
- If you find yourself caught in a pin or a submission hold, rapidly press the action buttons to escape before the referee counts to three.
