Game description:

Developed by Rare and published by LJN in 1990, WWF WrestleMania Challenge is a classic professional wrestling game for the NES. Unlike many other 8-bit wrestling titles, it features an isometric perspective that gives the ring a more three-dimensional feel. You can grapple, strike, and bounce off the ropes as iconic superstars from the golden era, including Hulk Hogan, The Ultimate Warrior, and “Macho King” Randy Savage. The game offers singles and tag team matches, plus a championship mode where you must defeat the entire roster to claim the belt.

How to Play

Use the directional keys to navigate the ring in eight directions. Press Z (mapped to the NES A button) to punch and X (mapped to the B button) to kick. When close to an opponent, you will automatically lock into a grapple; from there, quickly press an attack button combined with a direction to execute different body slams and suplexes. Press Enter (Start) to pause or Shift (Select) to switch your active wrestler during tag team matches.

Tips

  • Mash to win grapples: Whenever you lock up with an opponent, rapidly tap the action buttons to gain the upper hand and execute your move before they do.
  • Utilize the ropes: You can climb the turnbuckles for high-risk diving attacks, or bounce off the ropes to perform running strikes that deal significant damage.
  • Brawl outside: You can exit the ring to catch your breath or fight your opponent on the floor, but keep a close eye on the referee’s count so you do not get counted out.
