Word Rescue is an educational DOS platformer released in 1992 by Redwood Games and Apogee Software. You play as a boy or a girl on a mission to retrieve stolen words from mischievous creatures called the Gruzzles by matching floating text with their corresponding pictures.
How to play
Use the arrow keys to navigate the side-scrolling levels. When you find a word, touch it to pick it up, then find the matching picture to rescue it. If a Gruzzle blocks your path, use your slime bucket to temporarily freeze it so you can slip past.
Tips
- You must rescue all the words in a level to reveal the key that opens the exit door.
- Slime only freezes the Gruzzles for a short time, so do not linger after hitting them.
- Look out for hidden areas and question mark boxes to boost your score with bonus items.
