Wonder Boy is a side-scrolling action platformer developed by Westone Co. and released for the Sega SG-1000 in 1987. You play as Tom-Tom, a young boy racing to rescue his girlfriend Tina across a series of jungle stages — with one constant pressure: your vitality meter drains the whole time, and collecting fruit is the only way to keep it up.
How to play
Arrow keys control movement, Z is the A button, X is the B button, and Enter starts or resets the game. Fruit scattered through each level replenishes your vitality; pick up as much as you can because the bar falls regardless of enemies. Skateboards found along the way let you blast through sections at speed. Make it to the goal flag at the end of each stage before your vitality runs out.
Tips
- Treat fruit as your top priority — when vitality is low, running past enemies is often safer than stopping to fight.
- Skateboards speed you up but make precise jumping harder; dismount before a section with tricky platform gaps.
- Learn enemy spawn points early: knowing where foes appear lets you plan a route that keeps both your vitality and your momentum intact.
