Game description:

WinBack (Japan) (Rev A) is an innovative third-person shooter developed by Omega Force and released for the Nintendo 64 in 1999. It pioneered the modern cover-based shooting mechanic, requiring players to strategically pop out from behind corners and obstacles to return fire against a heavily armed terrorist group. Playing as SCAT agent Jean-Luc Cougar, you must infiltrate a high-tech facility and stop the Crying Lions from controlling a deadly satellite weapon.

How to Play

Success depends on mastering the cover system. Use the Nintendo 64’s R button to snap to walls or crates, and use the Control Stick to lean out and aim (typically mapped to your keyboard’s arrow keys and assigned action keys in the browser emulator). The A button fires your weapon, while the B button reloads. Managing your limited ammunition and taking down enemies methodically is crucial, as standing in the open leaves you vulnerable.

Tips

  • Pay attention to your laser sight, which changes color when locked onto an enemy to help you land critical shots.
  • Take your time clearing rooms; rushing will lead to being overwhelmed by crossfire.
  • Shoot explosive barrels to take out multiple enemies at once while staying safely in cover.
