Released in 1990 for the NES, Werewolf: The Last Warrior is a challenging side-scrolling action-platformer by Data East. You play as “Chief Warhead,” a hero who can transform into a super-powered werewolf to fight through stages filled with bio-engineered mutants created by the evil Dr. Faryan.
How to Play
Your objective is to navigate five punishing levels, defeating mutant bosses and saving the Earth. You begin in human form, but collecting red “W” orbs transforms you into a powerful werewolf. Use the Arrow keys to move and crouch. Press Z to attack and X to jump. Press Enter to Start or pause, and Shift for Select.
Tips
- In werewolf form, you can scale walls by jumping against them and attacking, and you can also perform a destructive backflip shockwave.
- Avoid the blue “W” orbs at all costsโcollecting one will instantly revert you back to your weaker human form.
- Your werewolf form has superior strength, reach, and speed, so prioritize finding red orbs early in each stage.
