Game description:

Wanpaku Duck Yume Bouken is the Japanese Famicom release of Capcom’s DuckTales, published on January 26, 1990, about a year after the game’s original North American NES debut. Based on Disney’s animated series, this side-scrolling action-platformer sends treasure hunter Scrooge McDuck across five far-flung locations in search of hidden riches, using his cane as both weapon and tool.

How to play

Pick any of the five stages in any order — the Amazon, the African mines, the Himalayas, Transylvania, and the Moon — each ending in its own boss (Transylvania’s is Dracula Duck). Move with the D-pad (arrow keys) and press A (Z) to jump, holding the button for extra height. The cane is the key tool: press Down + B (X) while airborne to start a pogo bounce that crosses spikes and cracks open treasure chests, and keep holding B to stay bouncing after you land. Standing next to a chest or block, press Left or Right + B for a golf-style cane swing that knocks it open from the side. Start (Enter) pauses the game and reviews the items you’ve collected.

Tips

  • Pogo-bounce every chest you pass — they hide ice cream cones (small heal) and cakes (full heal) as well as treasure.
  • Once you land a pogo bounce, keep holding B instead of re-jumping; it’s the safest way to cross spike pits without breaking rhythm.
  • How much treasure you’ve banked by the end changes the ending — finish with $10,000,000 or more for the best one.
