Volleyball is a 1986 NES sports game developed and published by Nintendo, part of the original Black Box series that launched with the platform. You choose from a roster of national teams and play standard six-on-six indoor volleyball, competing to reach 15 points through serves, digs, sets, and spikes.
How to Play
Control switches automatically to the player nearest the ball. Use the arrow keys to move around the court, X (A button) to swing overhead or spike when at the net, and Z (B button) to dig and bump low returns. Press Enter to start the match and to serve each rally. Select your national team before each game; the CPU opponents get sharper as you advance through them.
Tips
- Get a front-row player right up to the net and press X for a steep spike — these are the hardest returns for the CPU to handle.
- Track the ball by its shadow on the court floor rather than the ball itself; it tells you exactly where to position before the ball arrives.
- Aim your serves deep into the back corners of the opponent’s side to draw awkward bumps and keep the rally in your favor.
