Volfied is a sci-fi action puzzle game released by Taito in 1989 for DOS. Serving as a spiritual successor to Qix, you pilot a small spacecraft tasked with reclaiming your home planet from an alien invasion by strategically dividing and capturing sections of the screen.
How to play
Your objective is to capture at least 80% of the play area to clear the level. You move safely along the outer perimeter and hold the spacebar (or action button) while moving to cut into the hostile space. Once you reconnect your line to the perimeter, the enclosed area is claimed. You must avoid the roaming boss and its smaller minions; if an enemy touches your ship or your incomplete line while you are drawing, you lose a life.
Tips
- Carve small sections: Drawing long, sweeping lines leaves your vulnerable trail exposed for too long. Stick to capturing smaller chunks of territory to steadily shrink the board.
- Trap the minions: If you enclose the smaller enemies within your claimed area, they are destroyed, giving you more breathing room to box in the main boss.
- Target the blocks: Look for the small floating blocks on the field. Capturing the space around them grants power-ups like speed boosts, laser weapons, or temporary time freezes.
