Virtual Wars is an action-platformer released for the Super Famicom (SNES) in 1994. Known in Western regions as The Lawnmower Man, the game is a movie tie-in that blends traditional 2D run-and-gun platforming with fast-paced, pseudo-3D virtual reality flying sequences. Players step into cyberspace and heavily armed facilities to stop a rogue intellect named Jobe from taking over the global data network.
How to Play
Your goal is to survive alternating 2D shooting segments and 3D flight sequences, defeating enemies and avoiding hazards.
- Arrow Keys: Move / Aim
- Z: Jump
- X: Shoot
- Enter: Start
- Shift: Select
Tips
- Collect the data discs scattered throughout the 2D platforming levels. Gathering enough will equip you with the Virtual Suit, which significantly upgrades your firepower and takes an extra hit.
- In the 3D cyberspace tube sequences, stay near the center of the screen when not actively dodging. This positioning gives you the maximum time to react to incoming walls and obstacles.
- Prioritize upgrading your weapon to the homing shots, which make dealing with enemies on different elevations much easier during the side-scrolling sections.
