Game description:

Vampire: Master of Darkness (released as Vampire in Europe) is a 2D action platformer developed by SIMS in 1992 for the Sega Master System. You play as Dr. Ferdinand Social, a psychologist investigating supernatural murders in Victorian London that eventually lead to a showdown with Dracula. Widely considered Sega’s answer to the Castlevania series, it delivers challenging side-scrolling gothic action, stair-climbing mechanics, and atmospheric stages.

How to Play

Your objective is to fight your way through five rounds across Londonโ€”including the River Thames and a wax museumโ€”to defeat Dracula. On the Sega Master System, use the D-pad to move and climb stairs, Button 1 to attack, and Button 2 to jump. When playing in the browser, these map to the arrow keys for movement, Z to attack, and X to jump. Enter serves as the Start button.

Tips

  • Weapon replacements: Picking up a new sub-weapon (like a bomb, boomerang, or pistol) instantly overwrites your current one. Avoid picking up an item if you prefer your current loadout.
  • Break everything: Strike the white masks scattered throughout the levels to reveal health power-ups, ammo, and stronger primary weapons like the rapier and axe.
  • Master the stairs: Just like Castlevania, you are vulnerable while climbing or descending stairs. Clear out bats and nearby enemies before you commit to climbing.
