Game description:

Ultima – Seija heno Michi (translated as Ultima: Path to the Saint or Quest of the Avatar) is the Japanese adaptation of the groundbreaking PC role-playing game Ultima IV, published for the Famicom (NES) by Pony Canyon in 1989. Instead of simply defeating a dark lord, the game tasks you with exploring the vast land of Britannia to master the eight virtuesโ€”Honesty, Compassion, Valor, Justice, Sacrifice, Honor, Spirituality, and Humilityโ€”and become the Avatar.

How to Play

To succeed, you must gather a party, collect runes, explore dungeons, and make ethical choices in dialogue and combat that align with the eight virtues. As an NES game played in your browser, the default controls map the D-pad to the arrow keys, with Z and X acting as the A and B buttons. Use Enter for Start and Shift for Select.

Tips

  • Your actions affect your virtue. Fleeing from evil monsters or attacking non-hostile creatures will lower your standing, while donating blood or giving to the needy will raise it.
  • Take notes! The game requires you to remember mantras and clues given by townsfolk to progress through the shrines and dungeons.
