Game description:

Total Carnage is a frantic top-down arcade shooter ported to the SNES in 1993. Serving as a spiritual successor to Smash TV, players control either Captain Carnage or Major Mayhem on a relentless mission to stop the villainous General Akhboob and his mutant army. The game drops you into chaotic, multidirectional battlefields filled with overwhelming enemy swarms, hostages to rescue, and a ridiculous amount of firepower.

How to Play

Survive the onslaught by moving your character while simultaneously shooting in any direction. The D-pad handles movement while the SNES face buttons (A, B, X, Y) fire your weapon in their respective directions. In the browser, movement is typically mapped to the arrow keys, with Z, X, A, and S serving as your firing buttons. Collect keys, weapon upgrades, and rescue civilians to boost your score as you fight your way through each zone.

Tips

  • Keep moving constantly. Standing still makes you an easy target for the massive, fast-moving enemy hordes.
  • Weapon power-ups only last for a limited time, so use them aggressively to clear out the most crowded areas.
  • Pay attention to the directional arrows that appear on the ground, as they will point you toward level exits or hidden paths.
