Game description:

Drop into the halfpipe with Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater, the legendary extreme sports title that kickstarted a cultural phenomenon. Brought to the Nintendo 64 in 2000 by Edge of Reality and Activision, this foundational skateboarding game tasks you with completing two-minute runs across iconic locations like the Warehouse and Downhill Jam. You’ll need to rack up high scores, spell S-K-A-T-E, and uncover secret tapes by chaining together flips, grabs, and grinds before the timer runs out.

How to Play

Your objective is to complete as many goals as possible within a two-minute run to unlock new levels and boards. Default Nintendo 64 controls apply in the browser: steer your skater using the analog stick (typically mapped to the arrow keys), hold and release A to ollie, and use the B and C-buttons in combination with directions to execute flip, grab, and grind tricks.

Tips

  • No Manuals: Unlike its sequels, the original game does not feature manuals. You cannot link combos on flat ground, so focus on vert ramps, long grinds, and spinning to multiply your score.
  • Speed is Key: Always hold down the ollie button as you skate around; this builds your speed and momentum, allowing you to catch significantly more air when you finally release it at the lip of a ramp.
  • Bail Recovery: If you are about to land sideways or crash, you cannot simply correct your rotation in mid-air easily. Anticipate your landings and stop spinning early to avoid losing your entire combo score.
