Tonjan! (fully known as Okkotoshi Puzzle Tonjan!?) is a charming 1989 puzzle game for the NES, developed by NMK and published by Jaleco. Featuring Sokoban-style mechanics, you play as an anthropomorphic pig tasked with pushing mahjong tiles around maze-like levels. The goal is to drop specific tiles into holes to complete the stage, while avoiding hazards that get in your way.
How to Play
The objective is to carefully push the correct mahjong tiles into holes in the ground to clear each stage. Much like Sokoban, you can only push tiles, not pull them, so positioning is key. Default NES controls apply: use the D-pad to move your character, and the A and B buttons to interact. In your browser, these map to the arrow keys for movement, with Z and X acting as the A and B buttons.
Tips
- Plan your pushes: Since you cannot pull tiles once they are against a wall or in a corner, always plan your route before moving a tile.
- Watch out for fish: Pushing the wrong tilesโspecifically the “fish” tilesโinto a hole will cost you a life, so pay close attention to which tiles you are dropping.
