Game description:

Tiles of Fate is an unlicensed tile-matching puzzle game released for the NES in 1990 by American Video Entertainment. Developed by C&E Inc., the game is based on the rules of Shisen-sho, a variation of Mahjong Solitaire. Set in ancient China, the game challenges players to conquer seven castles by matching and clearing enchanted tiles before the time limit runs out.

How to Play

The objective is to clear the board by matching identical tiles. Pairs can only be removed if they can be connected by a clear path containing no more than two right angles. Use the arrow keys to move your cursor across the board and press Z (representing the NES A button) to select tiles. Press Enter for Start and Shift for Select. If you get stuck, you can utilize limited power-ups hidden within the game to break walls or reveal the best possible move.

Tips

  • Speed and observation are critical, as the time limit is strictly enforced. Try to clear tiles from the outer edges first to open up more pathways for future matches.
  • Save your power-ups, like “The Flag of Knowledge” (which automatically makes a match), for situations where you are completely stuck and running low on time.
