Thexder is a fast-paced action-platformer released for the NES in 1985, bringing Game Arts’ iconic transforming mecha to consoles. You pilot a versatile combat robot that can instantly morph into a fighter jet, navigating through 16 sprawling, maze-like levels of a hostile facility. Armed with a homing laser that locks onto enemies, you must balance your energy reserves while hunting down the central computer.
How to Play
The goal is to survive each labyrinthine level and reach the exit by managing your energy, which acts as both your health and your ammunition. Destroying enemies restores small amounts of energy, so balancing combat and evasion is essential.
- D-pad / Arrow Keys: Move left and right, or aim up and down.
- A / X Key: Jump.
- B / Z Key: Fire homing lasers.
- Down + Jump: Transform between robot and jet forms.
Tips
- Manage your energy: Firing your laser drains your energy. Avoid holding the fire button down unless you are actively locked onto enemies.
- Stay in robot form for combat: The jet form is much faster and essential for traversing long horizontal gaps, but its wider hitbox and forward-only lasers make it vulnerable in tight combat situations.
- Farm specific enemies: Some weak enemies appear in infinite swarms. If you are low on energy, find a safe spot to destroy them and recharge before proceeding.
