Game description:

Tennis is a foundational sports title developed by Nintendo and released for the Famicom and NES in 1985. It offers a surprisingly authentic recreation of the sport for its era, complete with Mario making a cameo as the umpire. You can play singles or doubles matches across five distinct difficulty levels, focusing heavily on timing, positioning, and varied shot types on a traditional grass court.

How to Play

Your objective is to win the match by outscoring your opponent in standard tennis sets. Using the default browser controls for the NES, move your player with the Arrow Keys. Press Z or X (mapped to the A and B buttons) to swing your racket; the button and your timing determine whether you hit a standard drive or a lob. Use Enter for Start and Shift for Select.

Tips

  • Perfect your serve: When serving, aim to strike the ball at the absolute peak of its toss for maximum speed and power.
  • Control your shots: Your position relative to the ball and the timing of your swing dictate the angle of your return. Hitting the ball early typically results in a cross-court shot.
  • Use lobs strategically: If the AI opponent rushes the net, a well-timed lob can easily clear them and land in the backcourt for a point.
