Game description:

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III: The Manhattan Project is a beat ’em up developed and published by Konami for the NES in 1991. Unlike the earlier TMNT console games, which were ports of Konami’s arcade titles, Manhattan Project was built ground-up for the cartridge. Shredder seizes control of New York, and Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello, and Raphael must fight through eight stages of Foot Clan soldiers and series bosses to free the city.

How to play

Choose one turtle at the start — each has different attributes. Donatello has the longest reach, Michelangelo is the fastest, Leonardo is well-balanced, and Raphael hits hardest at the shortest range. Stages scroll left to right; clear every enemy wave to move forward. A jump-kick (press Jump, then Attack in the air) is your most reliable move against approaching enemies and most boss patterns.

Each turtle also has a special screen-clearing attack activated with Up + Attack (B). It costs stars from your life bar, so conserve it for boss fights.

Two-player co-op is supported; Player 2 requires a second gamepad connected to the browser.

Tips

  • Jump-kicks deal solid damage and keep you above ground — lead with them on enemy groups and the game’s earlier bosses.
  • Save your special attack for bosses; burning stars on regular stages leaves you exposed when you need that margin most.
  • If Raphael’s short reach is frustrating, try Donatello — his bo staff clears groups cleanly and keeps enemies at arm’s length.
