Game description:

Tales of Phantasia is the critically acclaimed 1995 role-playing game that launched the long-running Tales franchise. Released for the SNES, it follows a group of time travelers led by Cress Albane as they try to stop the evil sorcerer Dhaos and reverse the decay of their world. Pushing the limits of 16-bit hardware, the game features voice clips during combat, a sweeping soundtrack, and an epic time-hopping narrative.

How to Play

Unlike traditional turn-based RPGs, combat takes place in real-time on a 2D plane using the Linear Motion Battle System. You directly control Cress while the AI handles your party. Using default SNES web controls, press the Arrow keys to move, Z and X for your A and B buttons to attack and use Artes (special moves), and Enter to open the menu. Master your spacing and timing to juggle enemies and protect your backline.

Tips

  • Positioning is everything: Keep Cress at the frontline to protect your spellcasters. If enemies slip past you, your mages are highly vulnerable.
  • Manage your TP: Special moves consume Technical Points. Stock up on Orange Gels to keep your TP replenished during long dungeon crawls.
  • Customize your tactics: Frequently adjust the AI behavior of your party members in the menu so they don’t waste spells on weak foes.
