Takahashi Meijin no Bugutte Honey is a unique 1987 action-platformer for the Famicom/NES by Hudson Soft. Based on the anime adaptation of the Adventure Island series, this Japanese exclusive offers a creative blend of two distinct genres. You begin the game controlling the flying fairy Bug-tte Honey, and after completing the first stage, you take control of Master Takahashi himself.
How to Play
The core objective in each of the game’s four stages is to locate and collect eight hidden eggs during the side-scrolling platforming sections. Once all eight eggs are found, you are transported to an Arkanoid-style block-breaking minigame. In this mode, you must use a paddle to keep the ball in play while breaking blocks.
Default Controls (Browser):
- Move/Aim: Arrow Keys
- Jump/Fly (Honey): Z
- Attack/Action: X
- Start: Enter
- Select: Shift
Tips
- Watch the letters: During the block-breaking minigame, blocks will drop letters. You must only catch the letters that spell out the correct password to advance. Catching an incorrect letter will instantly cost you a life!
- Honey’s flight: In the first stage, remember that Bug-tte Honey can fly freely by pressing Up, which makes navigating the opening level much different than playing as Master Takahashi.
