Game description:

Takahashi Meijin no Bouken Jima IV (often known as Adventure Island IV) is a historic action-adventure platformer developed by Hudson Soft, holding the distinction of being the final official game released for the Famicom in 1994. Breaking away from the series’ traditional linear levels and stressful fruit-depletion timers, this installment introduces an interconnected map where exploration is key. Master Higgins must navigate various environmental zones, find essential items, and rescue his captured dinosaur companions.

How to play

Your objective is to explore the island, defeat bosses, and gather new weapons and items to access previously unreachable areas. Because it is an NES game played in your browser, the default controls map the D-pad to the arrow keys. Use Z to jump and X to attack with your currently equipped weapon. Press Enter to pause the game and open your inventory, where you can select different tools to help you progress.

Tips

  • Returning to Master Higgins’ house and sleeping in the bed will completely restore your health and provide a password to save your progress.
  • Experiment with the weapons you collect; many of them double as tools to interact with the environment, such as using the spear to create temporary platforms on walls.
  • Pay attention to your dinosaur friends once rescued, as each provides a unique movement ability to help you traverse difficult terrain.
