Game description:

Tag Team Pro-Wrestling is the Famicom version of Data East and Technos Japan’s early tag-team wrestling game, released in Japan on April 2, 1986. It’s a home port of the 1983 arcade original Tag Team Wrestling, adapted for Famicom by Data East (graphics and sound) and Sakata SAS (programming) and published in Japan by Namco. Two tag teams face off across a series of matches, working through opponents on the way to a championship.

How to Play

Move with the arrow keys and close the distance to throw a punch with Z. Landing that punch is what matters most: it opens a short move menu, and Z doubles as the button that scrolls through it, so X confirms whichever move is highlighted before the window closes. Start begins a match, and Select tags in your partner. Win enough matches and the game crowns your team world champions.

Tips

  • You can’t select a move out of nowhere — land a punch first to bring up the menu.
  • The menu only stays open for a few seconds, and the same button throws punches and scrolls choices, so know your character’s move ahead of time rather than hunting for it under pressure.
  • Later opponents are mostly palette swaps of the earlier ones, so a strategy that works against the first team will usually keep working as the tournament goes on.
