Game description:

Swimmer is a vertically-scrolling arcade game developed and published by Tehkan (now Tecmo), released in Japan in July 1982 and brought to North America by Centuri that November. It flips the formula of games like Frogger: instead of dodging traffic, you swim upriver through a run of watery hazards, aiming to reach a distant treasure island.

How to Play

Guide your swimmer with the arrow keys, dodging side to side or diving underwater with Z to slip past anything you can’t outswim. Each of the game’s four stages has its own resident hazard — turtles on the first, crabs on the second, dragonflies on the third, and fish on the fourth — and before you can clear any of the first three stages you have to get past a giant crab blocking the way. Along the river you can also scoop up strawberries, bananas, grapes, and melons for points. In the browser, press Shift to insert a coin and Enter to start.
