Super Turrican is a 1992 run-and-gun platformer developed by Rainbow Arts and Imagineer for the NES. Directed by series creator Manfred Trenz, this 8-bit entry brings the massive, exploration-heavy levels and fast-paced shooting of the home computer classics to the console. Players control the Turrican assault suit through sprawling alien environments, collecting weapon upgrades and fighting off waves of mutants and mechanical enemies.
How to play
Navigate the enormous levels, find the exit, and defeat the bosses waiting at the end of each stage. Use the arrow keys to move, duck, and aim your weapon. Press X to jump and Z to shoot. Holding the fire button (Z) activates the directional lightning whip, which you can aim around your character to sweep through enemies. Press Enter to start or pause the game.
Tips
- Explore thoroughly: The levels are huge and filled with hidden blocks containing extra lives, diamonds, and essential weapon power-ups like the spread shot.
- Master the lightning whip: Holding down the fire button allows you to aim the beam in a full circle, which is crucial for taking out enemies above or below you without moving.
- Use the morph ball: Roll into a ball to navigate tight spaces and drop bombs on enemies safely, but remember that you are not invincible while transformed.
