Game description:

Released in 1994 by Bottom Up for the Super Famicom, Super Tsume Shougi 1000 is a specialized board game that brings a massive collection of Japanese chess puzzles to the 16-bit console. Rather than offering standard shogi matches, the game focuses entirely on tsume shogiโ€”the traditional practice of finding forced checkmates against an opponent’s king. As the title suggests, it includes a staggering one thousand distinct puzzle scenarios for players to solve.

How to Play

The objective in each puzzle is to checkmate the king within a predetermined number of turns, using standard shogi rules and piece movements. You navigate the board and select pieces using the directional pad, confirming your moves with the A button and cancelling with the B button. Because this is a puzzle-focused game without a fast-paced timer, you can take your time to read the board and plan your sequence of drops and captures.
