Super Mario Bros. CD is an ambitious, highly advanced ROM hack of Super Mario World for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES). Built as a “what-if” reimagining of a Mario game on a fictional CD-based console, the project pushes the SNES hardware to its limits. It utilizes the MSU-1 enhancement chip to provide CD-quality audio and extensively uses Mode 0 to allow for complex environments and additional parallax scrolling layers. The game features an entirely new story set in the Archipelago of Brixurei, complete with over 40 interconnected levels, original power-ups, new enemies, and fully animated cutscenes.
How to Play
Navigate the new interconnected levels using standard platforming controls. In the browser, the standard SNES controls are mapped to your keyboard: use the Arrow Keys for movement, Z and X for running and jumping, and Enter and Shift for Start and Select. Master the new power-ups to progress through the Archipelago and enjoy the enhanced presentation.
