Released for the SNES in 1992, Super Inindou – Datou Nobunaga (known in the West as Inindo: Way of the Ninja) is a historic role-playing game developed by Koei. Set during Japan’s turbulent Sengoku period, you take on the role of a young Iga ninja whose village has been wiped out by the forces of Oda Nobunaga. To exact your revenge, you must travel across feudal Japan, master new ninja techniques, and recruit a diverse party of samurai, monks, and wandering ronin to aid your cause.
Your primary objective is to build a strong enough force to defeat Nobunaga. This involves exploring provinces, taking on guild jobs in towns, and fighting in tactical, turn-based battles that play out on a grid. Because it is a Koei title, the game features a dynamic world where rival warlords continuously battle for territory in the background. Use the D-pad (mapped to your arrow keys) to navigate the overworld and battle grid, and the A button (Z or X in your browser) to confirm actions, talk to NPCs, and attack.
Tips
- Use formations wisely: Battles take place on a grid, so keep your vulnerable magic users or ranged attackers protected behind heavily armored melee fighters.
- Recruit carefully: You can only bring a few companions at a time, so make sure your party has a good mix of healing, magic, and brute strength before heading into difficult dungeons.
