Strange Mario Bros. is a 2001 Super Mario Bros. hack for the NES created by Acmlm, one of the earliest and most influential figures in the ROM hacking scene and later the founder of Acmlm’s ROM Hack Domain. Built on the original 1985 Nintendo engine, it keeps Mario’s core run, jump, and power-up mechanics intact while replacing the familiar eight worlds with newly designed levels, so the goal is still the classic march to Bowser’s castle to rescue Princess Peach, but the layouts along the way won’t be the ones a longtime Super Mario Bros. player has memorized.
How to Play
Guide Mario (or Luigi in two-player) through the redesigned worlds to reach the flagpole and castle at the end of each stage. The familiar Super Mario Bros. rules still apply: a Super Mushroom grows Mario to Super size, a Fire Flower lets him throw fireballs, and a Starman grants brief invincibility â while getting hit as Small Mario ends the attempt.
Keyboard controls:
- Arrow keys â move / duck
- Z â B button (run / fireball) | X â A button (jump)
- Enter â Start | Shift â Select
