Stinger is a classic shoot ’em up developed by Konami and released for the NES in 1987. Serving as the North American version of the second game in the beloved TwinBee series, it offers a charming but challenging mix of both horizontal and vertical scrolling stages. Players pilot whimsical spacecraft through vibrant levels, battling bizarre enemies and bosses to rescue Professor Cinnamon.
How to Play
Your objective is to navigate your ship through waves of enemies, dodging projectiles and defeating the boss at the end of each stage. A signature feature of the series is the bell power-up system: shoot the floating clouds to reveal bells, then shoot the bells to bounce them and change their color for different weapon upgrades. The default NES controls apply: use the Arrow Keys to move, Z and X to shoot and drop bombs, and Enter to start.
Tips
- Pay close attention to the color of the bells you juggle. Different colors grant different power-ups, like a protective barrier or a laser, but shooting a bell too many times will destroy it.
- In the horizontal scrolling stages, remember to use your secondary attack to drop bombs on ground-based targets while shooting forward.
