Game description:

Star Wars is a classic 1991 action-platformer for the NES based on the events of Episode IV: A New Hope. Released by Victor in Japan, players take control of Luke Skywalker as he sets out from the deserts of Tatooine to rescue Princess Leia and destroy the Death Star. The game ambitiously blends side-scrolling exploration, intense character combat, and first-person vehicular sequences.

How to Play

Your goal is to survive various levels spanning Tatooine, the Millennium Falcon, and the Death Star. As Luke, use the D-pad to move, A to jump, and B to shoot your blaster or swing your lightsaber. In the first-person flight segments, steer your ship to dodge obstacles and use A or B to fire at TIE fighters. The default NES controls apply in the browser: map movement to the arrow keys, B and A to the Z and X keys, and Start and Select to Enter and Shift.

Tips

  • Take your time exploring the caves of Tatooine thoroughly, as you must locate R2-D2, C-3PO, and Obi-Wan Kenobi to progress and obtain the lightsaber.
  • R2-D2 can display map layouts of the levels, which is extremely helpful for navigating the more confusing maze-like stages.
  • Managing your lives and continues is critical. Dying during the treacherous Death Star trench run can quickly drain your reserves, so gather shields and extra lives whenever possible.
