Game description:

Originally developed by Namco, this 1991 Star Wars release for the NES is an infamous 8-bit action platformer, presented here with a complete English translation. Rather than strictly following the 1977 film, this unique take sends Luke Skywalker through wildly imaginative levels where he fights off space mummies, battles a shape-shifting Darth Vader, and pilots the Millennium Falcon in first-person space combat segments.

Your objective is to navigate a series of side-scrolling planets, survive bizarre boss encounters, and eventually destroy the Death Star. In the browser, the classic NES controls are mapped to your keyboard: use the Arrow keys to move, Z to jump, and X to attack with your lightsaber. Press Enter to pause and Shift to activate the various Force powers you collect along your journey.

Tips

  • Conserve your Force points: Abilities like hovering and invincibility are crucial for surviving some of the more unforgiving platforming sections later in the game.
  • Watch for transformations: Darth Vader frequently transforms into unexpected creatures, such as a giant scorpion or a shark. Stay patient and observe their attack patterns before striking.
