Released in 1993 by Absolute Entertainment, Star Trek: The Next Generation is a unique spaceship simulation game for the NES. Framed as a Holodeck training program for Starfleet cadets, the game places you in the captain's chair of the USS Enterprise. Instead of a linear storyline, you take on a series of randomized missionsโfrom exploration and rescue to tactical combatโwith the goal of rising through six different Starfleet ranks.
How to Play
You command the Enterprise by switching between different bridge stations to navigate the galaxy, scan planets, and manage ship systems during combat. Use the D-pad (Arrow Keys) to highlight options or steer the ship in action sequences. Press A (Z key) to select commands or fire weapons, and B (X key) to cancel or back out of menus. Start (Enter) brings up your main menu or pauses the simulation.
Tips
- Power management is critical during combat. Always remember to allocate energy to your shields when facing hostile Romulan or alien vessels.
- Use your sensors before engaging a ship. Firing on friendly or neutral targets without provocation will severely damage your Starfleet rating and hinder your promotions.
